It may seem a bit far-fetched to talk about title challenges with just two games played, but with Manchester United having scooped the maximum six points on offer, they’ve made the best start possible. Louis van Gaal’s men once again registered a 1-0 victory this evening, following up their opening day win at home to Spurs by the same margin, dispatching of Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The performance turned in by United was far from inspiring, but the result was the most important thing, and with both Chelsea and Arsenal having stuttered last weekend, there is already a game of catch-up kicking off between the Red Devils and two of their three expected title rivals.
There was tentative talk of a sustained push for the big prize before a ball was kicked this season, and here are THREE reasons we at FFC Towers are slowly climbing onto the United bandwagon…
Winning ugly

Who cares about performances early in the season, it’s all about getting results in the opening five games. With a 100% record United have done all anyone could have asked of them by beating Spurs and Villa – two tricky ties.
Over time the quality of players like Rooney and Memphis will surely tell.
Still time for one or two additions
United’s need for a striker is glaringly obvious. Although Rooney made his name in the position, he now looks to be of more use in a slightly deeper role, while Chicharito is not really cut out to lead the line alone.
With over two weeks of transfer time left and the deep pockets at Old Trafford, there’s no reason to bet against a top quality forward coming in.
Defence seems to be improving
Two games played, no goals conceded. Has LVG finally sorted out his defence? Maybe. Smalling and Blind appear to have struck up a decent relationship at the heart of the backline, and have so far kept last season’s strike sensation, Harry Kane, and the best header of the ball in English football, Rudy Gestede, quiet.
Darmian looks to be the business at right-back, while Shaw is also settling well on the opposite flank. Who needs Otamendi?
